Family traditions say Laura's mother was full Native American. Laura's granddaughter insists it is a Sioux bloodline. Another grandson insists it is Cherokee. With the help of a handwritten document from, a family member approximately in 1976, as well as a few members of Ancestry.com, I have found Laura's mother to be Lydia Powell. Laura was born abt. 1868. There hasn't been any records found within any tribe in the Carolinas prior to this date. The surname, Reeves, is Laura's maiden name as well. Bill and Laura are cousins.
People in photo include: Gordon Lee "Jack" Harrison and Laura Savannah Reeves
Date & Place: in Anderson, Anderson County, South Carolina United States

If I could help a little... I am a great granddaughter of Laura Savannah. Her mother was actually a Catawba. The Catawba are anthropologically classified as "Siouxan" because of their language. The Catawba, after being decimated by smallpox, merged with the Cherokee. Lydia Powell was Catawba, but kept herself off the Native American rolls to avoid removal (aka, The Trail of Tears). I am very happy to see this picture of "Granny." She was a tough gal!
