Janet (Brodie) McCraw was born in 1871 to Francis Brodie and Jane (McGill) Brodie, and had siblings Francis David Brodie, William Brodie, and Kate Sophia (Brodie) Beazley. She married Frank McCraw, and died at age 74 years old in June 1946. Janet McCraw was buried at Lang Lang Cemetery in Lang Lang, Cardinia Shire County, VIC Australia.

In 1871, in the year that Janet (Brodie) McCraw was born, on October 8th, 4 major fires started on the shores of Lake Michigan - in Chicago (Illinois), Peshtigo (Wisconsin), Holland (Michigan) and Manistee (Michigan). The Chicago fire is the most well known of them because it left almost 100,000 people homeless. But the Peshtigo Fire killed around 2,500 people. The casualty count made it the deadliest fire in US history.
