William Brodie 1874 - 1954

William Brodie was born in 1874 to Francis Brodie and Jane (McGill) Brodie, and had siblings Francis David Brodie, Janet (Brodie) McCraw, and Kate Sophia (Brodie) Beazley. He married Margaret (Wiseman) Brodie, and had a child Heather Victoria Brodie. William Brodie died at age 79 years old on May 1, 1954 in Subiaco Australia, and was buried at Karrakatta Cemetery Railway Rd, in Karrakatta, City of Nedlands County.

    The Elmore Standard, Victoria. 18th May 1900. -WEDDING. On the 4th ult., at the Wesleyan Church, Perth, W. A., a number of relatives and friends gathered to witness the celebration of the marriage of Mr. Wm. Brodie, third son of the late Francis Brodie, of Clyde, Gippsland, to Miss Margaret ( Maggie ) Wiseman, eldest daughter of Mr. Alex Wiseman, of Runnymede East.

In 1874, in the year that William Brodie was born, on May 20th, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis were approved for a patent for "blue jeans with copper rivets". They charged $13.50 per dozen jeans. In 1914, he was 40 years old when in August, the Panama Canal opened to traffic. Begun by the French in the 1880's and abandoned, the United States undertook further construction in 1904. After 10 years, and the elimination of malaria carrying mosquitoes (which caused immense delays for the French and the Americans), the 48 mile long artificial waterway - a series of locks - created a shortcut for ships traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
