  • Introduction

Jennifer, my mom, was usually a pleasant person. I don't remember much of her, for she died when I was young, but I do know this: her last 6-8 years were long and hard. Mom was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gherig's disease) at a young age. Throughout her last years, her strength slowly deteriorated to the point when, at last, her vital bodily organs shut down. When she left us, my brother, about five years old, and I only 7 (the funeral was on my eighth birthday,) she, herself, was only thirty years old. The average age for an ALS patient to even start showing symptoms is around 50, and usually they don't suffer as long as she did. She had lost the ability to speak, write, blink, and the use of all of the limbs, etc. that we all take for granted. By God's grace, she passed peacefully in her sleep. Rest in peace Mom, and God be with you. See: Jennifer Gail (Oldfield) Hildebrandt: Obituary.

Jennifer was my first born child. She weighed 7#5oz and was 18.5" long. She was a very good baby, slept thru the night early on. She stopped her bottle on her own at age 9mths. She started walking at 10mths. and was totally potty trained at 18mths. She was a "people person" from toddler age.
Jennifer loved being the center of attention at an early age and this trait followed her thru school. She was really a bashful, insecure person, but you would never have guessed this because she never met a stranger.
Jennifer had 3 children, the oldest son is 20 years old today. Then she had a daughter whom is 15 and the baby is a boy as well, and he is 13 years old. She loved her children, and would do anything for them. She was a very good Mom, and Wife.
It wasn't until her last child was born, that she discovered she had something wrong with her medically. She went thru so many Dr.'s trying to find out what wrong with her. Initially, they told her she had MS., then, she went to another Dr., he gave her the final diagnosis of A.L.S., this was a horrible, horrible day. She had one newborn and one toddler, and the other child in elementary school. Oh how I prayed to GOD to give it to me and not to her! But, for some reason, GOD wanted her and not me! We asked WHY??? so many times.
Whem the Dr. told her it was A.L.S., he told her she would live 3 yrs., 5 if she was lucky, she was lucky, she lived 5 years. But, this was in no way lucky. It was a horrible curse. For someone so young and full of life be stricken with such a horrible, unrelentless disease, it's just HORRIBLE. To be her Parents, sit back and have to watch her wither up and die right before our eyes....the question remains the same....WHY???
Jennifer is forever in our hearts and on our minds, when we thought we wouldn't be able to go on without her, we have, but it's certainly not easy.
I want to close by saying, JENNIFER GAIL OLDFIELD HILDEBRANDT, your Momma and Daddy both love you and we will see you soon, waiting behind those pearly gates with that beautiful smile that only YOU could wear!
