He married Jessie Ruth (Bess) Payne, and had children Juanita Sue Payne, Jimmy Lee Payne, Patricia Ann Payne, Jacky Wayne Payne, Vanessa Lynn Payne, and Lisa Gail Payne. Jesse Payne died at age 83 years old on May 12, 2004 in Gruetli-Laager, Grundy County.
