Johann Deutscher of Geelong Australia was born on September 4, 1855 in Hamilton, Southern Grampians Shire County, VIC to Michael Deutscher and Joanna Christiana Eleonarae (Schwartz) Deutscher. Johann Deutscher had siblings Christiana Caroline Deutscher, Trangott Michael Deutscher, and Carl Trangott Deutscher. He married Maria Wilhelmine (Thomas) Deutscher on July 7, 1880 in Dimboola, Victoria. They had children Oswald Deutscher, Paula Eleanora Deutscher, Amanda Helene (Deutscher) Brewer, Frieda Wilhelmine (Deutscher) Kosseck, Herbert Wilhelm Deutscher, Gertrude Minna Deutscher, Rubine Louise Deutscher, and Olga Marie Deutscher. He also married Bertha Hermeina Hoffmann in 1915. Johann Deutscher died at age 83 years old on June 9, 1939 in Murtoa, Yarriambiack Shire County, VIC.

In 1862, he was only 7 years old when on August 17th, the Dakota War of 1862 began in Minnesota. Four Lakota Sioux - while hunting - killed five settlers near the Minnesota River. That evening, elders of the tribe decided to attack more settlements with the goal of driving out those who had settled the area. By the end of the year, 1000 Lakota had been jailed.
