Introduction

The Advocate, Melbourne. 27th July 1922. MR. JOHN BUTLER. Mr. John Butler, of Mount Vernon, Bylands, has passed away. MR. Butler, who came to this country as a young man, had acquired a thorough knowledge of farming in the old country as trustworthy manager of a property there. He spent some time at the Jamieson digging, and subsequently became the owner of a property south of the town, to the area which he added considerably during his residence of over half a century. He was regarded as one of the most practical farmers in the district. Of a quiet, retiring, modest disposition, Mr. Butler never sought public position, whilst his straightforward qualities assured for him the highest esteem and respect of his neighbours. He reared a family of five sons and four daughter's, and before his death had the pleasure of knowing they were all comfortly provided for. R.I.P.
