    John Charles Leidy was born on October 20, 1921 in Pennsylvania to parents Russell Stewart Leidy (1881-1962) and Ora Katherine Irvin (1881-1950). He had a sister, Helen C Leidy who did not survive (1918-1918). He grew up and lived in Lewistown, Sellersburg, and Port Royal, Pennsylvania. He joined the Army on January 6, 1943 and served for almost a year, being discharged on November 24, 1943. On July 14, 1948 he married Esther Jane Fogleman (1926-2014). They had two children together John C. Jr. and Jennie Lou Leidy. John was a block operator for the Penn Central Railroad, a real estate broker, and an Elder in the Port Royal Presbyterian Church. He was also a foreman for the Port Royal Ambulance Club, a Red Cross first aid instructor and member of multiple groups and organizations including the Union Lodge, an associate member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, and the Brotherhood of Railway, Airlines, and Steamship Clerks.

    John C. Leidy, 50, died Thursday, June 22, 1972 in the Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 20, 1921, the son of the late Russell S. Leidy and Katherine Irvin Leidy. He Is survived by his widow, the former Esther Fogleman; and one son, John C. Jr. and one daughter, Jennie Lou, at home. Mr. Leidy was a block operator for the Penn Central Railroad, a real estate broker, an Elder in the Port Royal Presbyterian Church. He was a foreman for the Port Royal Ambulance Club, and a Red Cross first aid instructor. He was also a member of the Union Lodge F&AM No. 324 of Mifflintown, Juniata Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon No. 88, the Harrisburg Consistory, associate member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, and the Brotherhood of Railway, Airlines, and Steamship Clerks. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 25 in the Stimmel Funeral Home, Port Royal with Rev. Douglas Heslip and Rev. Reide Bingaman officiating. Interment was made in New Church Hill Cemetery.
