John Charles Mcpoyle of Prahran, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born on July 4, 1879 in Dook to Ellen Cantwell Mcpoyle and James Thomas Mcpoyle. He had siblings Edward Mcpoyle, Annie Maria Mcpoyle, Thomas James McPoyle, and Phillip Patrick McPoyle. He married Martha Ann (Ford) Mcpoyle in 1914, and had children James Thomas Mcpoyle, Frederick Alfred Mcpoyle, and John Charles Mcpoyle. John Mcpoyle died at age 62 years old on May 26, 1942 in Prahran.

In 1879, in the year that John Charles Mcpoyle was born, on April 26th, the National Park - later renamed the Royal National Park - the 2nd oldest national park in the world, was formally proclaimed in New South Wales, Australia. It was the first park to have the word "national" in its name.

In 1886, he was merely 7 years old when on May 4th, a general strike began in Chicago. Workers were striking for an 8 hour workday and in protest of the killing - by police - of several workers the day before. When an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb, the strike became violent. Seven policemen were killed as well as 4 civilians. It became known as the Haymarket Riot and eventually resulted in an 8 hourwork day as well as commemorations on May 1st for worker's rights.
