  • Introduction

    John Elias Namey was born to Elias Namey (1891 - 1940) and Sophia Mukedsey (1892 - 1971). He was one of six brothers who served in the Armed Forces during World War II. John was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army Air Force until November 2, 1945. He was a T Sergeant in 4112 Base Unit AAP and was shot down while flying a mission over Germany. A prisoner of war for eleven months, he received the Purple Heart and various other awards. John Namey married Mary (Eysie) Namey. They had one son and one daughter, John F. and Linda Lee Namey. See John E. Namey: Obituary.

His enlistment terms were for the duration of the war or other emergency, along with an additional six months, contingent upon the President's discretion or as determined by law. A veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Force, his plane was shot down over Germany and he was a POW for 11 months. He received a Purple Heart.

    JOHN E. NAMEY, MAILMAN, BURIED John E. Namey of 270 High Street, who was employed as a mailman at the Wilkes-Barre Post Office the past 12 years, was borne to rest this afternoon from the Mamary Funeral Home, 59 Parrish Street. Services were held in St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church with Very Reverend Herbert G. Nahas officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery where Rev. Father Nahas pronounced final benediction. Pallbearers were A. Paul Ofiesh, David A. and Jonathan Namey, nephews; Elias L. namey and George Morrash, cousins, and Robert Rushton. Flower carriers were John Izan, Sam Segismandi, Franklin Williams, William Pritchard, Al Selletto, Ted Simons, George Marrash, city mailmen. Mailmen also served as honorary pallbearers and paid final respects in a body yesterday afternoon. - Wilkes-Barre Times Leader, the Evening News (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania) Friday, December 14, 1962 on page 39.
