John Ellis Leeka passed away on July 27, 2014 in Loma Linda, California at age 66. He was buried in Rose Hills Mortuary, Whittier, California. He was born on September 16, 1947 in Exeter, California. John passed peacefully from this life the night of July 27, 2014 after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life. John was born in Exeter, CA on September 16, 1947, but resided in San Bernardino, Ca for the majority of his life. John spent many years as a mechanic and rebuilding his 1940's Chevy panel truck. He loved fishing, gardening, the great outdoors, and dreamed of retiring to Louisiana. His love for older cars and working with his hands was one of the many ways he kept himself occupied. Prior to his death, John had the opportunity to reconnect with his daughter Frankie on Fathers day after nearly thirty five years. He loved all of his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was a very giving man and cared for others as if they were family. He touched the lives of many while working in San Bernardino as a mechanic. John graduated from the Brown Military Academy prior to joining the United States Navy. He served as a hospital-man at Camp Pendleton in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

In 1947, in the year that John Ellis Leeka was born, on November 25th, the Hollywood "Black List" was created by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Ten Hollywood writers and directors had refused to testify to the Committee regarding "Communists" or "Reds" in the movie industry. The next day, the blacklist was created and they were fired.

In 1952, John was just 5 years old when on February 6th, George VI of England died from a coronary thrombosis and complications due to lung cancer. His eldest daughter, age 25, immediately ascended the throne as Elizabeth II and her coronation was on June 2 1953.

In 1963, at the age of 16 years old, John was alive when on November 22nd, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson became the 36th President of the United States when President John Kennedy was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas. Johnson was sworn in on the plane carrying Kennedy's body back to Washington D.C.

In 1985, by the time he was 38 years old, on March 7th, the song "We Are the World" was released as a charity effort to alleviate the African famine. The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and produced by Quincy Jones. They were joined by 37 other famous singers in the recording studio and a phenomena had begun

In 1990, he was 43 years old when on April 24th, the Hubble telescope was launched into space after long delays due to the Challenger explosion. An optical flaw was found within weeks of launch but was fixed within three years. The discoveries made possible by the Hubble have contributed to scientists' understanding of the universe.
