Born in Darlington, Indiana in 1889, Nellie would live to see many changes in the world from the invention of the car and airplane to the space shuttle and personal computers. Her parents were George Arthur and Ella Booher and she had two brothers, Willis and Harold. She married William Caster and had a son William, named for his father and grandfather and a daughter Arthella, whom she named after both her parents. Nellie had 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. She attended Earlam college receiving a teaching certificate and taught school in a one room school house in the early part of the 20th century. During her long lifetime she became known as a talented seamstress and excellent cook. She also worked as a millner creating and making hats. Nellie loved her family, animals, books, education, was conservative in her politics and had little patience for things she termed "simple". She possessed a very sharp mind, acerbic wit, kind heart and had very definate opinions of her own. Nellie was born with a liberated mind even hyphenating her name long before it was fashionable.
