John Frederick Lewelling 1914 - 1967

John Frederick Lewelling was born on October 27, 1914 in San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo County, California United States to John Joseph Lewelling and Pasquala de Trinidad Lewelling, and had a sister Virginia A. Damaso. He married Theda Genevieve Hudson and they later divorced in 1962. He had children Joan May Young, Frederick William Lewelling, James Edward Lewelling, Kathleen Virginia Amerine, and Jean Marie Baker. John Lewelling died at age 53 years old on December 13, 1967 in San Luis Obispo.

In 1914, in the year that John Frederick Lewelling was born, in only his second big-screen appearance, Charlie Chaplin played the Little Tramp, his most famous character. The silent film was made in January and released the following year. Of the character, Chaplin said: "On the way to the wardrobe I thought I would dress in baggy pants, big shoes, a cane and a derby hat. I wanted everything a contradiction: the pants baggy, the coat tight, the hat small and the shoes large." The moustache was added to age his 24-year-old face without masking his expressions.
