He had siblings Doris May Mcpherson, Carl Alexander Mcpherson, James Julius Mcpherson, Ruby Harriett Mcpherson, and Jean Isabella McPherson. John Mcpherson died at age 75 years old on December 3, 1994 in Werribee.

In 1919, in the year that John Frederick Mcpherson was born, the "Black Sox Scandal" rocked baseball fans during the World Series. Eight players on the Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the World Series, thus allowing the Cincinnati Reds to win, and making money off of the losses. All of the players were found not guilty by a jury but the fallout lasted for decades. The players were banned from baseball even though they were found innocent.

In 1956, at the age of 37 years old, John was alive when on May 20th, the U.S. tested the first hydrogen bomb dropped from a plane over Bikini Atoll. Previously, hydrogen bombs had only been tested on the ground. The Atomic Age moved forward.
