John Funge 1879 - 1947

John Funge of Northcote Australia was born in January 1879 in Cheadle, Staffordshire County, England United Kingdom to John James Funge and Jane Anne Winning Funge. He had siblings Charles James Funge and Thomas Funge. He married Effie May (Welsh) Funge in 1908, and had children Elsie May Funge, Alice Maude Funge, Beryl Jessie Funge, and Alan Thomas Funge. John Funge died at age 68 years old on March 28, 1947 in Collingwood, City of Yarra County, VIC Australia.

In 1895, he was 16 years old when on March 15th, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Michael Cleary killed his wife of 8 years, Bridget, and burned her body. His defense was that his "wife" was a changeling that was left in his real wife's place when she was abducted by fairies. He was nonetheless convicted and imprisoned for manslaughter. He spent 15 years in prison.
