He was born in Molde, Norway, and had resided in Tacoma since 1949. He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Hjalseth was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife, Othi-lie K.; a daughter, Mrs. Olav (Anna) Olsoy of Seattle; two sons, James O. of Tacoma and Corey I. of Shismarif, Alaska; two sisters, Margit Hjelseth of Molde, Nor-way, and Olava Roaldset of Kristi-ansand, Norway; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
