Services for John Hjalseth, 80, will be held today at ll a.m. Mr. Hjalseth died Monday.
He was born in Molde, Norway, and had resided in Tacoma since 1949. He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Hjalseth was a Lutheran.

Survivors include his wife, Othi-lie K.; a daughter, Mrs. Olav (Anna) Olsoy of Seattle; two sons, James O. of Tacoma and Corey I. of Shismarif, Alaska; two sisters, Margit Hjelseth of Molde, Nor-way, and Olava Roaldset of Kristi-ansand, Norway; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Buckley-King Mortuary Downtown is in charge.

John Hjalseth was the son of Kristian K Hjelseth and Anna Knutsen. He had older siblings Margit and Kristoffer as well as younger brothers Alfred Herman Hjalseth (1904-1982) and Olvae. He was born in Balsoy, Norway on June 9, 1902 and grew up there. He immigrated to the US aboard the SS Queen Elizabeth and arrived around May 2, 1923. He became a naturalized citizen on April 23, 1949 in the state of Washin He was married to Othilie K Hjalseth (1897-1995) and they had two sons together: James Hjalseth (1930-1996) and Corey Hjalseth (1935-2012) as well as a daughter Anna Hjalseth Olsoy (1927-2022). John was self employed as a carpenter and passed away at the age of 80 on May 30, 1983 in Tacoma, WA.
