He was married to Maria Ann Ferris Parkes in 1886, and had children Eliza Jane Parkes Peeck, William Henry Parkes, Margaret Rachel Parkes, Emily Mary (Parkes) Dyer, John Robert Parkes, Annie Ada (Parkes) Barber, Sarah Victoria Parkes, Edward Reuben Parkes, Florence May Parkes, Clara Edna Sargent, Charles Thomas Parkes, Andrew Vivian Parkes, and Clifford Joseph Parkes. John Parkes died at age 87 years old on September 13, 1948 in Bairnsdale, East Gippsland Shire County, VIC.
