In 1960, in the year that John K Miller was born, on September 26th, the first televised debate for a Presidential campaign in the United States - Kennedy vs Nixon - was held. Seventy million people watched the debate on TV. The debate pre-empted the very popular Andy Griffith Show.

In 1970, John was merely 10 years old when on May 1st, US troops invaded Cambodia, expanding the Vietnam War. The invasion of Cambodia was a Nixon policy, although it was argued against by both his Secretary of State and his Secretary of Defense.

In 1977, at the age of 17 years old, John was alive when on January 21st, President Carter pardoned "draft dodgers" - men who avoided the draft during the Vietnam War. In 1984, by the time he was 24 years old, on January 1, "Baby Bells" were created. AT&T had been the provider of telephone service (and equipment) in the United States. AT&T lost 70% of its book value due to this move.

In 1998, in the year of John K Miller's passing, on December 19th, the House of Representatives initiated impeachment charges against U.S. President Bill Clinton. He was subsequently acquitted of these charges by the Senate on February 12th.
