Otec bol Michal Kaplan /5.9.1863-5.12.1927/,usadil sa v Cuylerville Livingston county NY,kde pracoval v soľnej bani. John mal brata Michal/1895-6.9.1918/,ktorý zomrel v l.svetovej vojne v americkej armáde na lodi USS Denver Protected ako námorník na akútne zlyhanie srdca.Je pochovaný v Mt.Moris/NY/. Keď mal John 5 rokov zomrela mu matka v r.1903. Jeho otec Michal sa oženil v roku 1904 druhý krát za Máriu Orosz/27.8.1882-1964/ ,ktorá prišla tiež zo Slovenska v roku 1904,ktorá sa vzorne vychovávala jeho 2 synov. So svojou druhou ženou mal ďalších 10 deti/8 chlapcov a 2 dievčatá/.,s ktorými sa s celou rodinou vrátil do Československa v roku 1924 do obce Valča pri Martine,kde vr.1927 zomrel. John zostal v USA v Leicester/NY/,kde sa 10.10.1927 oženil s Pearl Jones/3.11.1894-17.7.1985/,dcérou Arthur a Jonesa a Verbena Nixon. Spolu vychovali dcéru Vena/1.10.1931/. Po úmrtí otca Michala v r.1927 pomohol postupne vrátiť sa svojím nevlastným bratom do USA Stephan/13.12.1905-4.9.1994/,Joseph/21.3.1908-17.11.2001/,George/28.4.1911-23.4.1966/,Michael/5.5.1921-18.6.2006/,ostatní súrodenci zostali v Československu/Emily,Paul,Stanley,Andrew,Eva,Cyril,Tóny/.
