John pochádzal z rodiny prisťahovalcov zo Slovenska/bývalé Uhorsko/,ktorá prisla za prácou do Ameriky v roku 1888.Otec Johna bol Michal Kaplan/5.9.1863-5.12.1927/.Mal brata Michala/1895-6.9.1918/,ktorý zomrel ako vojak americkej armády -namornik v I.svetovej vojne na lodi USS Denver Protected cruiser.Ked mal John 5 rokov,zomrela mu mama. Jeho otec sa druhý krát oženil za Máriu Orosz 27.81882-1964/.Johnov otec pracoval v soľnej bani v Leicester-Cuylerville. So svojou druhou ženou Mariou mal ešte 10 deti,s ktorými sa vrátil v roku 1924 na Slovensko,kde zomrel 5.12.1927. John zostal v USA v Leicester.John sa 10.10.1927 oženil s Pearl Jones/3.11.1894-17.7.1985/ dcérou Arthur a Jonesa a Verbena Nixon,s ktorou vychovávali dcéru Vena/1.10.1931/. Po úmrtí otca Michala na Slovensku pomohol John vrátiť sa do USA nevlastným súrodencom Stephan /1905-1994/,Josheph/1908-2001/,George/1911-1966/,Michael/1921-2006/,ostatní súrodenci zostali na Slovensku/Emily,Paul,Stanley,Andrew,Eva,Cyril,Tóny/.
