Introduction

John Veno Jilek's father was John Joseph Jilek (1893 - 1979) and his mother was Anna C Fuka (1904 - 1982). He had siblings Frances Rosemary (1924 - 2007), Charles "Charlie" A. (1928 - 2000), and another brother plus two more sisters. Four years before John married Kathryn, he was living in Wilson Wisconsin with his parents and younger sister Helen. Dad was a farmer and John was a truck driver in the auto industry. John married Kathryn Teresa Murphy (1931 - 2009) on November 27, 1954 in Winnebago, Illinois, and they had three sons: Edward "Eddie" J. (1957 - 1999), John, and Jeffrey, and a daughter: Elizabeth. The following obituary appeared in The Rockford Register Star, Thursday, November 2, 1989, page 6A: JILEK - John V. Jilek, 64, Seward, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1989, in Birchwood, WI after a sudden illness. Born Feb. 12, 1925, in Birchwood, son of John and Anna Jilek. Moved to Seward in 1966. Married Kathryn Murphy in Rockford, Nov. 27, 1954. Employed by Woodward Governor Company 23 years. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, Seward; three sons, Edward (Jean), Spokane, WA, John, Chicago, and Jeffrey(Kathy), Loves Park; one daughter, Elizabeth (Lon) Myers, Pecatonica; two grandchildren, Gregory and Ashley Jilek; one brother, Charles Jilek, Birchwood; three sisters, Francis Hanson, Rice Lake, WI, Ann Saur, Birchwood, and Helen Socha, Hales Corners, WI; aunt Helen Fuka, Birchwood, and uncle, Jim Fuca, Birchwood; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents. Services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in St. John Catholic Church, Birchwood, with Father James Brinkman, pastor, officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Birchwood. Arrangements by Appleyard Funeral Home, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI 54868, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 3; rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friends also may call from 10 a.m. to service Saturday at the church.
