He was in a relationship with Alma Lee (Markham), and had children John Wiley Williams Jr., James Charles Williams, Richard Houston Williams, Beverly Ann Williams, and Barbara Lee (Williams). John Williams died at age 78 years old on July 2, 1988.

    My father, John Wiley Williams Sr. worked in the dry cleaning industry as a Spotter until moving to Elkhart, Indiana and taking a manufacturing job at Adam's and Westlake Co. He played the saxophone as well as other instruments in his band named The Scats.

In 1909, in the year that John Wiley Williams Sr. was born, Polish physician and medical researcher Paul Ehrlich found a cure for syphilis, which was a prevalent (but undiscussed) disease. He found that an arsenic compound completely cured syphilis within 3 weeks.

In 1937, by the time he was 28 years old, on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.
