He had siblings Elizabeth Jane (Kay) Grady, Annetta Kay, Percival Cyril Mark Kay, Agnes Amelia (Kay) Michell, Catherine (Kay) Steward, Lucia Harriet (Kay) Whatmore, and Albert Ezra Kay. He married Alice Maria (Dwyer) Kay, and had children John Michael Kay, Thomas Albert Kay, and Frances Eileen Kay. John Kay died at age 44 years old on March 18, 1916 in Creswick.
