He was my Uncle Josef who was married to my Father's sister, Helen Dennis. Helen was born in Colorado, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Albert Royden Dennis. Uncle Josef was a very nice and pleasant man, and I thought very highly of him. He was a lot of fun to talk with, and he was very patient with me as a small child. He had an accent that my mother found charming. I was told he spoke several languages. I was told that his family were merchants and he had come to the University of Chicago to attend school. He and Helen Dennis met at the University. They had planned to return to Czechoslovakia following graduation, but Nazi insanity prevented that.

Josef Rysan obtained the rank of Captan in the US Army during World War II. It is my understanding that he worked in Army intelligence. I know that he served overseas in Europe during WWII.
