Joseph Polachek was the son of John A Polachek (1884-1957) and Anna S Shutak Polachek (1887-1963). He was born on Sep 27, 1916 in Pennsylvania and was the second youngest in his family. He had older siblings Andy, Annie, Mary, and John as well as a younger sister Margaret. They grew up in Susquehanna, Cambria, Pennsylvania.

Joseph Polachek enlisted on June 5, 1941 in Chicago Illinois (Military serial#: 36034773). He was ranked as a private, and served until October 28, 1945. He was a Cpl. 2520 Base Unit AAF.

He worked for the railroad and received a pension from them.

At age 23, he was 6'1'", 155 lbs, with ruddy complexion, brown hair, and brown eyes according to his WWII draft card.
