She was married to Evan Charles Griffiths in 1876, and had children Evan Charles Griffiths, Barbara Maud (Griffiths) Thurling, William Jenkings Griffiths, Elsie Sophia Ma (Griffiths) Lea, Eliza Isabel Griffiths, Stella Florence Lillian Griffiths, Ida Olive Blanche Griffiths, Edna Adela (Griffiths) Downes Everett, Albert Llewellyn Frankston Griffiths, and Lesley Watson Powell Griffiths. Julia Griffiths died at age 66 years old on January 20, 1924 in Ormond, City of Glen Eira County, and was buried at Brighton General Cemetery in Caulfield South.

GRIFFITHS. - On the 20th January, at " Rheola," Carlton Street, Ormond, Julia, loving wife of Evan Griffiths, first editor "Mornington Standard," and founder of "Moorabbin News," and loved mother of Charles, William, Bert, Leslie, Ida, Mrs. W. Thurling, Mrs. J. C. Lea, Mrs. M. Emonson, Mrs. H. Williams, and Mrs. J. G. Downes. Aged 67 years. Underneath are the Everlasting arms. Lead kindly Light.

In 1857, in the year that Julia Wright Griffiths was born, on March 6th, the US Supreme Court ruled that Blacks were not citizens and that slaves couldn't sue for freedom. The case was known as Dred Scott v. Sandford. It further divided the country and added to the forces that created the Civil War. It wasn't overturned until the 14th Amendment became law in 1868.

In 1866, at the age of only 9 years old, Julia was alive when on April 10th, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - the ASPCA - was created. New Yorker Henry Bergh was the first President of the Society and the leader in its creation. He later formed the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
