Kathleen Emma Rose (Ray) Oliver of Parkdale, City of Kingston County, VIC Australia was born in 1879 in Richmond, City of Yarra County to Emma Rachel (Norris) Ray and John James Ray. She had siblings William Henry Ray, Florence Mercy (Ray) Wright, Robert Richard Ray, Emma Ethel Ray, Edith Matilda (Ray) Mctaggart, Alice Maud (Ray) Healey, Edmund James Ray, and Mary Louisa (Ray) Bennett. She married John Sylvester Oliver in 1903, and had a child Phyllis Rose Oliver. Kathleen Oliver died at age 70 years old in 1949 in Parkdale, City of Kingston County.

In 1879, in the year that Kathleen Emma Rose Ray was born, on April 26th, the National Park - later renamed the Royal National Park - the 2nd oldest national park in the world, was formally proclaimed in New South Wales, Australia. It was the first park to have the word "national" in its name.

In 1890, at the age of just 11 years old, Kathleen was alive when on December 29th, the Wounded Knee Massacre occurred in South Dakota on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation . The U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment said that they rode into the Lakota camp "trying to disarm" the inhabitants. One person, Black Coyote - who was deaf - held onto his rifle, saying that he paid a lot of money for it. Shots rang out and by the end at least 153 Lakota Sioux - some estimates say 300 - and 25 troops had died. The site of the massacre is a National Historic Landmark.
