  • Introduction

    Kenneth was born to Penny M. Castillo (1965 - 2020) and Anthony J. Valdez Sr. He had a sibling, Anthony J. Valdez Jr. Kenneth had 1 daughter, Alexis Valdez of Paso Robles CA He was born and raised in Salinas CA and his body was found on fire near Salinas on July 15 2007. (Read contemporaneous news article below) His grandparents, with whom he lived (with his girlfriend and daughter) were shocked by his death. They said that "he was out of gangs and he was getting his life straightened up. He made a complete 180 (degree turn), so we don't know what happened." Kenneth was described as 6 ft tall and 280 lbs with a vibrant personality and a man who loved his family. A relative said that "Kenny was always fun. He was always joking around." The Friday night before his body was found, Valdez was seen being picked up by a friend. The friend was reported to be dropping him off with another friend but the second friend said he never showed up. A December 27 2007 news report said that Valdez had been shot before being set on fire. No arrests had been made.

Body on fire identified as Salinas man- MontereyHerald Sunday, July 15 2007
Monterey County Sheriff's deputies responding to a report of a vegetation fire on San Juan Grade Road near Crazy Horse Canyon Road found instead a smoldering body early Saturday.

The body was later identified as Kenneth Jesse Valdez, 20, of Salinas. The cause of death could not be determined.

Detective Sgt. Kevin Oakley called the circumstances 'highly suspicious' and said the Sheriff's Office is treating the death as a homicide.
