  • Introduction

Kenneth Raymond Barlow was a man of impeccable character. He served God, his family, the Olin Corporation, his country, the U.S. Army, and the United Nations. The meaning of the name: Kenneth- born of fire, "handsome" Raymond- "wise protector" Barlow- Barley "beacon of light" hillside To be born of fire is to be born of spirit. When hydrogen is exposed to oxygen, it burns and water is created. Kenneth is an embodiment of one who comes through the fire bearing water for others. The name Raymond captures the energy of possibility and radiance. He saw the big picture. The sun is the source that sustains life. People are like rays of the sun. The rays are not separate from the sun, nor are they separate from one another. Barlow Motto- "en foi prest", (Ready in faith) Kenneth was responsible, dependable, humble, ambitious, wise, and highly intuitive. His first priority was family, a responsibility he took seriously. Kenneth was strong, realistic, and practical. He was both protective and nuturing. He acted as a support, readily responding to the needs of those around him. He created an environment that was accommodating and conducive of success. Kenneth was fair in all his dealings. He believed everyone deserved a fair chance and if needed, a second chance. He was an independent thinker. He cared very deeply about the future of our country and the well being of the people.

Mr. Bridgewater offered his apologies as he was not able to provide information on the requested ancenstor. Many years later, Kenneth's granddaughter would discover the ancestor was in fact in these records as Joseph Nathanial. Kenneth and Walter originated from the same tree, but different limbs. The information provided a wealth of information. Both Kenneth and his granddaughter are greatful for the letter from Mr. Bridgewater. The first members of Kenneth's family were navigators to the new world. The first of the English pioneering people. Kenneth comes from royalty, in both the English and natural sense. The original people who met the boat would soon become family. The following is an excerpt from "Bridgewater Family History" by Walter C. Bridgewater: IMMIGRATED FROM ENGLAND REVOLUTIONARY WAR VETERAN BRIDGEWATER, Samuel 4/10/1749-5/11/1827, Pvt. Rev. War Mary Ann (Coffman) 10/25/1755-3/20/1847 (3/21 in Walker Family History Samuel (and his brothers Elias and Isaac) were sons of Immanuel Bridgewater, an English Duke, who died without visiting America. The three sons immigrated to America sometime before the Revolutionary War, about 1770. He and his sons were navigators for the celebrated Earl of Bridgewater, who was known as the father of inland navigation in England. The Earl of Bridgewater was also a Duke. These men owned quite a line of sea faring vessels for that day. In America, Immanuel's sons took sides with George Washington, and when war broke out, they joined the army. In 1949 these 4 Local Lodges and Lodge# 1252 which represented the Auto Mechanics in this area, pooled their resources and contracted to build the Machinist Center on Shamrock Ave, East Alton Ill.
