Lodge 660 Histroy
In 1933 Lodge #660 was first chartered representing the Machinist at Shell Oil. Later trade Machinist working at other locations were taken in to Lodge 660. The next big gain of Machinists membership came in 1944 when Olin was organized. At that time 3 new Local Lodges were chartered – (#1654, Production Workers) – ( #1632, Brass Mill) -(#1655, Casting Plant) – and (#660 represented the Machine Shop).

In 1949 these 4 Local Lodges and Lodge# 1252 which represented the Auto Mechanics in this area, pooled their resources and contracted to build the Machinist Center on Shamrock Ave, East Alton Ill. This provided a central location to collect dues and a place to keep some of the financial records of the five Local Lodges.

In August 1959 the Grand Lodge merged four of the Local Lodges into the Lodge #660. Lodge #1252 was later merged with other Automotive Lodges into Lodge #313, Granite City

Counting our retirees, Lodge 660 has 4,756 members. Today Local Lodge #660 represents members at 16 different companies:

Kenneth Raymond Barlow, SR
Kenneth Raymond Barlow was a man of impeccable character. He served God, his family, the Olin Corporation, his country, the U.S. Army, and the United Nations. The meaning of the name: Kenneth- born of fire, "handsome" Raymond- "wise protector" Barlow- Barley "beacon of light" hillside To be born of fire is to be born of spirit. When hydrogen is exposed to oxygen, it burns and water is created. Kenneth is an embodiment of one who comes through the fire bearing water for others. The name Raymond captures the energy of possibility and radiance. He saw the big picture. The sun is the source that sustains life. People are like rays of the sun. The rays are not separate from the sun, nor are they separate from one another. Barlow Motto- "en foi prest", (Ready in faith) Kenneth was responsible, dependable, humble, ambitious, wise, and highly intuitive. His first priority was family, a responsibility he took seriously. Kenneth was strong, realistic, and practical. He was both protective and nuturing. He acted as a support, readily responding to the needs of those around him. He created an environment that was accommodating and conducive of success. Kenneth was fair in all his dealings. He believed everyone deserved a fair chance and if needed, a second chance. He was an independent thinker. He cared very deeply about the future of our country and the well being of the people.
