Lane Sharpless Lowe of Sandpoint, Bonner County, ID was born on November 5, 1923 to Louise Ethlyn (Noel) Lowe and Leslie Charles Lowe. Lane Lowe had a brother Charles Lowe. He married Joan Lowe (Ross). He married Ruby Margaret Lowe, and they had a child Steven Hewes Lowe. He was the parent of Steven Hewes Lowe. Lane Lowe died at age 75 years old on May 18, 1999.

    Graduated Hollywood High School in Hollywood, California and attended Whittier College but did not graduate. He quit to join the U.S. Marine Reserves in WW2.
  • Military Service

    U.S.M.C.R. paramarine WW2. Fought in the Pacific theatre and was wounded by a Japanese sniper in the leg. He was honorably discharged frim his wounds.
  • Professional Career

    After WW2 he became a traveling ceramic salesman then went to work in Los Angeles for the Tabery Corp as a roofer. He then became a parolman for the Glendale Police Department in California. He then became an investigator for the Retail Credit Company, later called Equifax. He spent the next decade as a Senior Investigator for the District Attorneys office in Ventura, California where he was medically retired in 1973.

In 1938, he was only 15 years old when on October 30th, a Sunday, The Mercury Theatre on the Air broadcast Orson Welles' special Halloween show The War of the World's. A clever take on H.G. Wells' novel, the show began with simulated "breaking news" of an invasion by Martians. Because of the realistic nature of the "news," there was a public outcry the next day, calling for regulation by the FCC. Although the current story is that many were fooled and panicked, in reality very few people were fooled. But the show made Orson Welles' career.
