Lars Tragardh had siblings Norman Lafayette Tragardh, Edward Washington Tragardh, Alice Olive (Tragardh) Akerley, Charles Rupert Tragardh, and Erik John Tragardh. He married Wilhelmina Roy (Phillips) Tragardh, and they had a child Gwenda May Tragardh. He also married Lillian Ellen Tragardh. Lars Tragardh died at age 74 years old on July 12, 1972 in Thornbury, City of Darebin County, and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Park 1187 Sydney Rd, in Hadfield, City of Merri-bek County.

In 1898, in the year that Lars Sven Tragardh was born, on February 15th, the USS Maine exploded and sank in Havana harbor. The reason for the explosion has never been found, but it killed 266 men. "Remember the Maine" became a rallying cry and precipitated the United States' declaration of war on Spain two months later - the beginning of the Spanish-American War. On December 10th, the war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty gave the U.S. Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam - for $20 million - and, temporarily, Cuba.
