Spy Kids (2001)
In early 2001, Uncle Rency invited me to watch Spy Kids at a local theater (AMC at Burbank Town Center a.k.a. Burbank Mall). Being the quiet kid I was (and still am), I didn't know what to say. I was somewhat embarrassed because I had seen the movie beforehand (via a bootleg VHS airing during a bus ride back in the Philippines one time). I kept silent. Uncle Rency had this perplexed look on his face until Uncle Danny chimed in, saying that I was more in the mood to watch more cartoons at home on Nickelodeon (Rocko's Modern Life, Catdog, Rugrats, Aah! Real Monsters, Rocket Power, and the likes). Uncle Rency then said, "Okay, suit yourself, Kiddo!"

Looking back, maybe I should have taken that offer (for further bonding between me and Uncle Rency).

Knott's Berry Farm Orange County (2001)
In early 2001, the four of us (myself, Uncle Rency, Uncle Dan, and G.M.) went to Knott's Berry Farm Buena Park. This was around three to four years after our outing at Universal Studios Hollywood, and my biological father "G" was one year away from getting out of his enlisted service in the Navy. I could remember G's car breaking down before we went there. Of course, we were all hungry and contemplated on eating at a nearby Outback Steakhouse; I'm glad we didn't as we managed to fix the discrepancy with G's Camry. It was all worth it as we heartily ate at a barbecue joint within the theme park. I remember ordering these large beef ribs, which had huge bones. Uncle Lawrence was the one mainly teaching me how to down those. Afterwards, we just enjoyed the rides. This was all before I was due to start 7th grade at David Starr Jordan Middle School (Burbank, California) around August or September. Another moment of fun times!

Universal Studios Hollywood - Late 90s
Sometime late 90s, I went to Universal Studios Hollywood with Uncle Lawrence, Uncle Danny, and my biological father Gerardo. Uncle Lawrence previously worked there as a cashier and bought a lot of toys and candies for me from there (of which I still remember a family home video capturing the moment that I opened up the box containing those gifts).

We were at some kind of "Slime Time" show at the Nickelodeon sublet. I was trying to join the other kids on stage but hesitated at the last minute. Nonetheless, I still tried to get up on stage when Uncle Lawrence pulled me back to my seat. It was one of the funniest things ever.

Meeting Uncle Rency One Last Time (2009)
Hello. My name is Reiji Minato (formerly Reginald Micu). I am the nephew of Lawrence a.k.a. "Rency," but I personally call him "Uncle Larry." The last time I spoke with my uncle was back in 2008, before I shipped out to Japan for my initial tour of duty during my initial enlistment in the Navy. We ate at a fusion Thai-Chinese restaurant called Banana Bay in La Puente, California, and had a great time with another uncle of mine (Danny), his wife (Mina), and his kids (Kyle and Miles). Uncle Larry's last words to me were, "Never let anybody or anything bring you down...ever. Pursue your wildest dreams as long as they bring out positivity into the world. F everything else. I f-in love you, you little bugger. Never forget that!" He then gave me a nice bear hug one last time, months before he died. To this day, I do my best to live by those words and carry on his memory. Recquiescat In Pace, Uncle Larry. I'll always be your little buddy. Much love and respect!
