    Leonard Benjamin Medvitz was born on November 3, 1925 in Brownfield, Fayette, Pennsylvania, USA to parents Andrew Anthony Medvitz (1895-1980) and Veronica Ondrush (1897-1949). He was one of 5 children in his family with siblings Helen, Gertrude, Jacob Andrew (1923-1975), and Elmer Andrew Medvitz (1927-1989). He graduated from the South Union High School in 1943 and worked for several years at the A&P Grocery Store in Uniontown. Leonard was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the 3rd Marine Air Group, 1st Division in Luzon Philipines and later in Peking China, working on court martial cases. Leonard loved to sing! He was a member of The Barber Shoppers and sang with the group called "The Unaccounted Four". He was also in the church choir and at Midnight Mass each Christmas he sang "Oh, Holy Night" as a solo. He met his wife when they both sang tenor in the church choir. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and collected coins as a hobby, and his vegetable garden was second to none. After 82 years of life, Leonard Medvitz passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 18, 2007, in the Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, Pa.

He was primarily stationed at H&S Battalion, Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune, NC, and his last Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was 501-Administrative Clerk. Throughout his service, he held various roles including a Legal Services Court Reporter, Clerk Typist, and Administrative Man. He underwent basic training in 1944 at Boot Camp in San Diego, CA. His unit assignments included service in the Marine Aviation Detachment (MAD) at NTS San Diego and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) during the Luzon Campaign. He also served in the Marine Air Depot Squadron - 1 (MADS-1) on Espiritu Santos, and later in MAG-32 at Tsingtao, China, as well as the 9th Marine Air Wing (MAW) in Tsingtao. He was part of the 4th Marine Corps Reserve Recruiting District and later served in H&S Battalion, MCB Camp Lejeune, NC. He participated in the Western Pacific Campaign and the Luzon Campaign during World War II, and was involved in Operation Beleaguer in China. Overall, his military record reflects a diverse range of assignments and experiences across different units and campaigns, showcasing his dedicated service as a USMC Veteran.

Born November 3, 1925, in Brownfield, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Andy Medvitz and Veronica Ondrus Medvitz. Medvitz and his wife, Joyce E., of Uniontown, Pa., Marie Medvitz and her husband, Wayne Wyant, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jeanne Zell and her husband, Jerry, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and John Medvitz of Uniontown, Pa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored: Richard B. Medvitz and his wife, Laura, Ryan Medvitz, Melanie Medvitz, Katrina Zell, Renee Zell, Andrew Zell and Craig Zell; several loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
