Leonard Benjamin Medvitz
Leonard Benjamin Medvitz was born on November 3, 1925 in Brownfield, Fayette, Pennsylvania, USA to parents Andrew Anthony Medvitz (1895-1980) and Veronica Ondrush (1897-1949). He was one of 5 children in his family with siblings Helen, Gertrude, Jacob Andrew (1923-1975), and Elmer Andrew Medvitz (1927-1989). He graduated from the South Union High School in 1943 and worked for several years at the A&P Grocery Store in Uniontown. Leonard was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the 3rd Marine Air Group, 1st Division in Luzon Philipines and later in Peking China, working on court martial cases. Leonard loved to sing! He was a member of The Barber Shoppers and sang with the group called "The Unaccounted Four". He was also in the church choir and at Midnight Mass each Christmas he sang "Oh, Holy Night" as a solo. He met his wife when they both sang tenor in the church choir. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and collected coins as a hobby, and his vegetable garden was second to none. After 82 years of life, Leonard Medvitz passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 18, 2007, in the Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, Pa.
