Ludlow man gets 30 years
. . . for the murder of his fiancee

CAROLLTON, MO - One of three defendants accused in the death of a young woman from Ludlow has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. William "Jay" Oster, 25, also of Ludlow, was convicted in June of second-degree murder in the death of his fiancée, Lesa Clevenger, 20. He was sentenced Monday in Carroll County Circuit Court.

Oster and two co-defendants, including his mother, were all charged with first-degree murder in the death of Clevenger. She was last seen about 11 p.m. on May 6, 1998, when she left her job at a convenience store in Braymer, heading for the home in Livingston County where she lived with her two children and Oster. Her body was found the next day, inside her car in a remote area of northwestern Carroll County. She had been shot in the back of the head, apparently a short time after leaving work, with a .22-caliber rifle. The alleged murder weapon was found in the Centerville, Arkansas, home of Oster's mother, Vicky Ann Sowers, 46. Sowers faces trial August 14, in Ray County.

Her former son-in-law, David Ray Holt, of Warrensburg, pleaded guilty to first degree murder and faces up to life in prison without parole.
