Leslie Marion VanDorn of Cardington, Morrow County, Ohio United States was born on April 15, 1903 in Congress Township. He was in a relationship with Willa Catherine VanDorn, and had children Walter Charles VanDorn, Marven Blaine VanDorn, Marion L. VanDorn, Robert Eugene Vandorn, Wallace Lawrence VanDorn, Florence Eileen Lewis, Mary Adams, Donald James VanDorn, Eva Lena Davenport, Mildred Elaine Hahn, and Nellie June Kohles. Leslie VanDorn died at age 78 years old on November 2, 1981 in Cardington, and was buried at Bryn Zion Cemetery 5520 Co Hwy 240, in Mount Gilead.

    Leslie Marion Van Dorn was born on April 15th, 1903 in Ohio to Charles Van Dorn (1875 - 1959) and Laura Belle Hartwell (1882 - 1962). Leslie M. Van Dorn married Willa Catherine Kincade (1908 - 1995) on September 8th, 1928, in Fayetteville, West Virginia. They had eleven children, including: Eileen, Eva, Mary, June, Mildred, Marion, Robert, Walter, Wallis, Marvin, and Donald. Leslie died at the age of 78 at home in Mount Gilead, Ohio.     Leslie was Caucasian, of Dutch heritage on his paternal line. His several times great-grandfather, Diedlof Van Doorn, was born in 1662 in the Netherlands. His maternal lines goes back in Ohio for a few generations.

    When Leslie was 16 years old, he was living with his parents in Ohio and working on the family farm. By the time that he was 46 years old, in 1950, he was still living in Ohio and working as a crane operator for a press manufacturer. When he died at the age of 78, he was a retired crane operator at HPM.

    Leslie was born to Charles Van Dorn and Laura Belle Hartwell. He was an only child and both of his parents were born in Ohio. He married Catherine Kincade in 1928 and they had eleven children. He was survived by 36 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

    LESLIE VAN DORN MOUNT GILEAD - Leslie Van Dorn,, 3296 County Road 165, Cardington, died suddenly at home on Monday. He was 78. Mr. Van Dorn, a retired crane operator at HPM, was born in Morrow County on APril 15, 1903. He was the son of Charles and Laura (Hartwell) Van Dorn. His marriage on September 28, 1928, was to the former Catherine Kincade. She survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Eva Johnston of Galion; Eileen Lewis of MountGilead; Mary Adams and June Kohles, both of Salt Lake City; and Mildred Hahn of Galax, Virginia; six sons, Marion of Galion; Robert of Mansfield; Walter and Wallis, both of Cardington; Marvin of Tucson; and Donald of Marion; 36 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Craven funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Reverend Robert Hahn officiating. In 1918, at the age of merely 15 years old, Leslie was alive when on November 1, an elevated train on the Brooklyn line of the subway - driven by an inexperienced operator because of a strike - tried to navigate a turn at 30mph. The limit on the curve was 6 mph. The 2nd and 3rd cars of the 5 car wooden train were badly damaged and at least 93 people were killed, making it the deadliest crash in New York subway history.
