In 1917, when she was 19 years old, on July 28, between ten and fifteen thousand blacks silently walked down New York City's Fifth Avenue to protest racial discrimination and violence. Lynchings in Waco Texas and hundreds of African-Americans killed in East St. Louis Illinois had sparked the protest. Picket signs said "Mother, do lynchers go to heaven?" "Mr. President, why not make America safe for democracy?" "Thou shalt not kill." "Pray for the Lady Macbeth's of East St. Louis" and "Give us a chance to live."

Celebrities We've Lost That Impacted Our Lives
It's the nature of life that people close to us eventually pass. The hardest deaths are those of family and close friends. But sometimes the death of people we never even met are also difficult. It's often hard to say goodbye to our favorite celebrities, singers and actors, and other entertainers who impacted our lives over the years. Whether it is listening to your favorite song or watching the same actors and actresses throughout the years over and over again, these entertainers end up having a special place in our lives. No matter how long they are gone from us, entertainers will always be a part of our lives because of the enduring nature of movies, television, and music.
