I was an autograph hound and a culture vulture in High School. I had a lot of famous friends and received letters from all over the world from famous actors, writers, poets and TV Stars. A bunch of small minded teachers were destroying my reputation as a psychotic who lived in an imaginary world. Lola Longworth asked me to bring my autograph collection to school and during lunch she showed it my grade advisers, the school principal and all the English, Drama and Journalism teachers. After that they all wanted me to be their student, and some asked me to get them autographs too. It was a life-changing experience. She died on this date and several people who helped me, and one person whom I helped ended up in the same town! Hawley, PA!

Lola Longworth had been on the board of the library since 1966 and served on the Book Committee as the library grew through the years. In 1984 Lola made a gift to the library to build a new wing in memory of her mother, Louise Longworth. The Longworth Wing provided space for the Reading Room with reference books, periodicals, large print books, and study tables upstairs and the Children’s Room downstairs. The library was beginning to come of age, just at a time when the area's population began to explode and the demand for library resources soared. By the early 1990s the books once more overflowed the space. Generous gifts were made in memory of long serving Library Board President William J. Adams. A bequest was received from the estate of Helen Decker Blough and the Capital Building Fund (started in the 1960s, added to over the years, but untouched until now) reached a significant threshold. Thanks to the many different friends of the library, we again expanded our building with the William J. Adams Addition.
