Luther Lavert Duke was born on June 14, 1881 in Walnut Grove, Blount County, Alabama United States to Emma T (Brown) Duke and Elijah Jefferson Duke, and had siblings Joseph B Duke, William Jesse Duke, Thomas "Clarence" Duke, Lula Pearl (Duke) Alldredge, and Sweet Baby Duke. He married Jimmie Bell (Thompson) Duke on January 15, 1901 in Cameron, Milam County, Texas, and they were married until Luther's death on July 6, 1963 in Waco, McLennan County. Luther Duke was buried on July 7, 1963 at Clifton Cemetery in Clifton, Bosque County.

A Family Picture of my grandfather William Jesse Duke who is standing by his father. The oldest brother is Luther. The one between her mother & father is Lula, baby is Joseph B & the last boy is Thomas Clarence( who went by Clarence Duke.)(Baby Joe, at around age 17, drowned in the Brazos River. )
