    Lyle Ray Newberry was born to Clarence Ray Newberry Sr. (1891 - 1968) and Laura May Shields (1894 - 1970). Lyle's father was born in Illinois and his mother was born in Indiana. He had ten siblings: Earl E. (1914 - 1984), Genevieve Elizabeth (1916 - 1997), Jennie (born 1917), Clarice (1919 - 2014), Charles Herbert (1922 - 1988), Pearl Pauline (1925 - 1926), Mary Lou (1927 - 2007), Dale Leon Newberry (1939 - 2008) and two more brothers. A veteran of World War II, Lyle was a TEC 4 in the United States Army. Technician fourth grade (abbreviated T/4 or Tec 4) was a rank of the United States Army from 1942 to 1948. The rank was created to recognize enlisted soldiers with special technical skills, but who were not trained as combat leaders. Lyle Newberry married Marjorie Arlene Kelson (1926 - 2005) on December 10, 1949, in Grant Park, Illinois. They had two daughters and a son, Randy Dean Newberry (1952 - 2006). He had previously married Lorraine C. Anderson (1925 - 2016) in 1948.
