MARCUM JAY SCHNEIDER
Died in Davidson, North Carolina on April 11, 2008. Born in Louisville, KY in 1922 to Sam and Jennie Schneider, he is survived by Alan Schneider and Betty Ann Ottinger, brother and sister. Marc married the late Georgia Ethridge and they had four children: son, David Schneider, of Cologne, Germany; daughters, Jenny (and Charlie) O'Neill of Lexington, KY; Georgia (and Bill) Ringle of Davidson, NC, and Mary (and Glenn) Kiger of Brentwood, TN and eleven grandchildren. His memory will also be treasured by his many beloved nieces and nephews. He volunteered and served in the U.S. Army 1942-1945, WWII, 342nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. Starting with the mule pack, he later flew as a forward observer in the European Theater. He was one of the liberators of Dachau and landed at the Eagle's Nest, Hitler's mountain retreat. He graduated from Purdue University, worked at International Harvester in Louisville, and earned a Masters of Science from University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a nuclear engineer for Bettis Laboratories for more than 30 years in Pittsburgh, PA. A lifelong Democrat, he was a founding member and former president of the 14th Ward Independent Democratic Club of Pittsburgh, treasurer of the Americans for Democratic Action, Western PA chapter, and a dedicated Judge of Elections. Known as a liberal soul and a defender of the weak, he was a man with a consummately delightful sense of humor and a world view both gracious and entertaining. He was a life-long learner and a man admired for his integrity. Moved to Davidson, NC in 2006 where he enjoyed the many friends he made at The Pines at Davidson and the wonderful care of its staff.
