This was my ma-maw. She and I were really close when I was four and lived in Indiana with her and my granddaddy, Jennings, for awhile. My ma-maw was married to my Step Grandpa, Fred Toney, at the time (btw, I never knew he was a step-grandpa..he was really awesome and treated me as if I was his own grandaughter). My ma-maw took care of me when my mom went to school. I was allowed to go with her to "Bingo Night" and watch her and her friends play Bingo.
I remember playing "twinkle, twinkle, little star" for her and her friends on my toy guitar, and singing along at the same time. She made me a Raggedy Ann birthday cake for my 5th birthday. I even went to Santa Claus Land in Indiana with my mom, grandaddy, and my ma-maw. It was so fun!
I absolutely adored my ma-maw! We always "hung out" together. It was awful when my mom and I moved back to Utah! I missed my ma-maw so very much. But she was really awesome because she would send my mom, brother, and me surprise packages in the mail sometimes, which had slippers she had crocheted, outfits and even a ceramic doll that she had painted to look like me (sort of anyway). It wasn't the same as having her there with us, but it eased the ache I felt inside for her just a little bit.
My ma-maw died at very young age in 1978 when I was only seven. She died from ovarian cancer. I was able to go with my mom to her funeral in Crawfordsville, IN. I have missed her so much even though so much time has passed. I look forward to the day I get to see her again in the next life.
