Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

My mother was a charming, childlike woman who suffered from bipolar disorder for much of her adult life, enduring numerous psychiatric hospitalizations and treatments. She loved fun, music and dancing, and pretty clothes and enjoyed being a mother to her two children. After her husband’s death at age 47 when she was only 43, she went to live with her father, the Rev. Boyd A. White, in Truth or Consequences, NM, and she lived her final years in the New Mexico State Hospital in Las Vegas, NM. She was adored by the staff there, who took good care of her, and was occasionally visited by her two adult children.

The parade was held as a way to promote the opening of the “World’s Largest Store” and its 1 million square feet of retail space in Manhattan’s Herald Square. The parade was 6 miles long and included floats, Macy's employees dressed as clowns, cowboys, and sword-wielding knights, and animals from Central Park Zoo. Santa Claus, of course, brought up the rear - opening the Christmas shopping season for Macy's.
