She had siblings Caroline, Anna, Maria, John, Sophia, and Dietrich. She also had half-siblings Erica and Sidonia Nordhausen. NOTE: While family records say that Martha was born in Oregon, when her child Johanna was born, Martha said that she was born in Nebraska.

This week was a record-breaker for marriage licenses in Clackamas county., nine having been issued by the county clerk. The nine couples who were made happy are: Ida Nelson and P.A. Nelson, Florence Schindler and Orville A. Stevens, Fay Franklin and Harry F. Roddy, Martha Nordenhusen and Jacob F. Yost, Bertha A. Trullinger and William Hayward, Ruby Dygart and W. J. Thompson, Ross Wilkins and Louis Toedtemeier, Jessie Nelson and Charles Frank Rauch.
