Mary Florida (Lightner) Walser 1845 - 1924

Mary Florida (Lightner) Walser was born on January 6, 1845 in Lexington, Missouri United States. She was married to Daniel Waggoner Walser on March 2, 1864 at Walker Basin in Kern County, California, and had children Charles Abia Walser, Daniel William Walser, John Caswell “Cas” Walser, Sidney Johnston Walser, Franklin Barrows Walser, and Dayse Elizabeth (Walser) Wallace. Mary Walser died at age 79 years old on February 22, 1924 in Palo Alto.

  • Introduction

    Mary married on 2 Mar 1864 to Daniel Waggoner Walser and they had 7 children: charles Abia, daniel William, John Caswell, Sidney Johnston, Franklin Barrows, Dayse Elizabeth and Mary Mima. Mary was the daughter of Abia Taylor Lightner and Jemima Sharp Snelling. She traveled in ox-wagon train across plains with her parents in 1849 and settled with them in Keysville in 1855, moving to Walker Basin in 1858. Lived and raised her family in the Walser Home in Walker Basin, which was "most picturesque in the location". the residence was one of the finest and most complete in its interior arrangements in Kern County. here Mary and dan lived to be about 80 years old after raising a family of 7. At the Walser home, good books suited to both old and young were ever in reach of all. The children almost unconsciously became self-taight. Friends and strangers received kind treatment at the Walsers. Their home was a favorite gathering place for young and old. The Walser home burned in 1917. Mary went to live with her daughter, Dayse Wallace, in Palo Alto after Daniel's death.
