She was the owner and operator of Joerndt's Log House in Salem, and was very active in her community. She was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, the Silver Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Silver Lake Rescue Squad, Lakeland Little League, and others.     The following appeared in the Kenosha News (Wisconsin) newspaper on Tuesday February 10th 1998: Mary Jo Joerndt, 67, of Salem, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 1998) at Oak Ridge Care Center in Union Grove. The daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (McKeown) Kelly, she was born on April 7, 1930, in Chicago and attended schools there. On Oct. 10, 1953, she married Donald J. Joerndt at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Chicago; they moved to Salem after the wedding. He preceded her in death in 1985. Since 1953, she was owner and operator of Joerndt's Log House in Salem. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster and the Silver Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. In addition, she worked with numerous community organizations, including Silver Lake Rescue Squad and Lakeland Little League, and provided transportation and other services to homebound people. Survivors include five children, Donna Ratzke of Burlington, Lynn Vanasse of Coon Rapids, Minn., Tom of Lakeville, Minn., and Art and Bill of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, Katherine Corbett of Torrance, Calif., Loretta Wrezinski of Berwyn, Ill., and Patricia Reichart of Chicago; and a brother, Peter Kelly of New York. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home of Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
