Introduction

The Age, Melbourne. 8th July 1948. - Daughter of Gold Discoverer Dies. Mrs. Polglase, who died at Bendigo this week, aged 98 years, was the daughter of Mrs. Margaret Kennedy, whom the State Parliamentary Commitee, accredited as being one of the discoverers of gold in Victoria. At the time of her mother's find Mrs. Polglase was a baby in arms. Mrs. Kennedy, while employed on a station near Bendigo in the early fifties, spent her spare time searching for gold in creeks. It was reported by the committee that she scooped a heap of gold which she kept in a stocking and a quart pot.
