Matthew Estaras married Willie B. "Sweetpea" Turner (1914 - 2007). They didn't have children. He was survived by his nieces and nephews. He served on the board of Being A Man; served as president of the Florida Secondary Principals Association and the Florida State Teachers Association; and was a member of the NAACP, the Tallahassee Urban League and the Early Risers Exercise Club.
